Greenberg Traurig LLP Retained by Underground Contractors Association
of Illinois for Legislative Work
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- May 15, 2002 -- The Underground Contractors Association
of Illinois (UCA) today announced it has retained the national law firm
Greenberg Traurig LLP for federal legislative representation relating to
the reauthorization of the Clean Water Act state revolving fund. The firm
will also handle state issues for the company in Illinois.
"We selected Greenberg Traurig over a number of firms interviewed based
on its exceptional reputation as one of the leading legislative shops in
the nation, and for its strong Washington presence" said UCA President Timothy
Scully.
In February 2002, the Senate introduced a bill that would authorize $35
billion for the clean water and drinking revolving funds during the next
five years. In addition to boosting the amount of money in the fund, the
legislation seeks to establish a more equitable allocation formula.
"We’re pleased to have been selected by the UCA and we’re looking forward
to a successful campaign on reauthorization of the state revolving fund,"
said Peter Gillon, co-chair
of Greenberg Traurig’s national environmental practice. Gillon will oversee
legislation and lobbying efforts on the federal level for UCA. The lobbying
team will be led by Mike Smith,
an associate in the government affairs practice in Greenberg Traurig’s Washington
office. Brian Hynes, an associate in the government affairs practice in
Greenberg Traurig’s Chicago office, will handle UCA’s lobbying work on the
state level.
