Greenberg Traurig’s Boca Office Expands with Attorneys from Pioneer Firm Hillier & Associates

MIAMI, FL -- March 18, 2005 -- The international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP announced today that the attorneys and professionals at Hillier & Associates, P.A., a Boca Raton firm known as a pioneer in the area of golf and recreational club membership programs, have joined the firm.

“This addition continues Greenberg Traurig’s significant growth in South Florida, particularly in Palm Beach and Broward counties and is a great example of being flexible enough to take advantage of a unique opportunity as it presents itself,” says Matthew B. Gorson, Greenberg Traurig’s National Operating Shareholder and Managing Shareholder of its Miami office. “The Boca Raton and West Palm Beach offices, collectively, have grown more than five-fold since their founding.”

The attorneys who join Greenberg Traurig – Dennis W. Hillier, Shareholder; Michael P. Sim and Glenn A. Gerena, Of Counsel; and Mark D. Hillier, Associate – have extensive experience with recreational amenity strategies, the design of club membership programs, documentation and legal issues concerning clubs, and membership marketing consultation.

Dennis W. Hillier, the founding partner of Hillier & Associates, focuses his practice on corporate and real estate law with an emphasis on the design of membership programs. A pioneer in equity club conversions and non-equity membership programs, Hillier has designed more than 1,800 membership programs throughout the United States, Caribbean, Europe and the Pacific Rim. In addition, Hillier has extensive experience with residential and resort developments. He holds a J.D. from University of Florida Levin College of Law and a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Florida.

Mike P. Sim focuses his practice on club, marina, recreation and hospitality matters, real estate, corporate, tax and contracts. He has authored numerous articles about the design of club membership programs for golf clubs, hotels and resorts. Sim holds a J.D. degree from University of Florida Levin College of Law.

Glenn A. Gerena has substantial experience in many transactional areas, including general contracts, corporate, and real estate. Gerena focuses on club, recreation and resort matters, including assisting resort and residential developers in structuring club membership programs and marina slip sales programs and selling their facilities to members. Gerena has also significant experience in drafting and negotiating hotel and club management agreements and agreements giving hotels access to club recreational facilities. Gerena graduated cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law. Gerena is the author of "Your Club and Its Membership Documents," which appeared in the Your Club and the Law series published by the Club Managers Association of America.

Mark D. Hillier focuses his practice on recreation and hospitality, corporate, real estate, securities and tax matters. Prior to joining Hillier & Associates, he worked in several architecture, land planning and consulting firms in the recreational and hospitality practice group. Mark Hillier is an active member of the national Urban Land Institute and the ULI Southeastern Florida & Caribbean District council. He holds a J.D. from Vanderbilt University.
