DALLAS, TX -- April 20, 2005 -- George B. Brunt, a highly regarded intellectual property counselor and litigator, has joined the international law firm, Greenberg Traurig LLP, as Of Counsel. He will be resident in its Dallas office. Having served as general counsel for a number of leading-edge global telecommunications and computer companies over the past 20 years, Brunt has broad-based experience in domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, antitrust issues, corporate governance, compliance and government relations in addition to his thriving intellectual property practice.

“George brings skills of critical importance to Dallas businesses,” said Scott Olson, managing shareholder of the Dallas office, which has grown to more than 30 attorneys since it opened in 2003. “His extensive experience in the development, licensing and protection of intellectual property assets, combined with his knowledge of how to establish and maintain effective corporate compliance programs, plus his ability to manage complex litigation and win bet-the-company cases are invaluable skills that will further enhance our client services.”

Most recently Brunt served as general counsel at Alcatel Americas, where, in addition to general corporate matters, he managed major litigation including multi-billion-dollar patent, trade secret and antitrust cases involving state-of-the-art and emerging technologies, plus one of the largest trade secret cases ever tried in Texas. Other major companies where he served as general counsel or senior vice president include DSC Communications Corporation, Quotron Systems, Inc., Citicorp Business Systems, Qume Corporation and International Telephone and Telegraph (ITT) Information Systems.

In addition to his experience in the strategic development and protection of patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets, Brunt has worked extensively in global product distribution and structuring innovative software and technology license agreements. He also has counseled clients on a wide array of corporate issues from corporate compliance best practices to issues with evolving FCC regulations, reverse engineering and data export compliance.

Much in demand as a speaker, Brunt has addressed topics from “Developing Corporate Integrity” to “Antitrust Implications of IP Law,” and “Managing Complex Litigation.”

"After leaving Alcatel, I took some time off to write a book "Integrity: the Key to Capacity," but remained involved in the business community by providing strategic legal advice and consulting services to CEOs across the country,” said Brunt. “Greenberg Traurig offers tremendous global resources and an empowering principle-centered environment that will allow me to better serve my existing client base and play a role in helping the Dallas office achieve its growth goals. As a general counsel, I was always on the lookout for a firm where the attorneys would synergize in a global environment to achieve what was in the best interest of my company. The culture at Greenberg Traurig drives that kind of cooperation and efficiency. It delivers both the best client value I have yet observed and the best working environment for attorneys.”

Brunt obtained his J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law, and has a bachelor of science degree from Brigham Young University. He is admitted to practice in California, Texas and before the U.S. Supreme Court, and serves on a number of advisory boards including the Circle Ten Counsel BSA, the J. Reuben Clark Law Society, The Dallas/Fort Worth Management Society, the Marriott School of Business, and Pepperdine University’s School of Law.
