FORT LAUDERDALE, FL-- April 20, 2006 -- The Jewish National Fund (JNF) of Broward/Palm Beach Counties announced today that it is awarding Greenberg Traurig, Fort Lauderdale office Co-Managing Shareholder Brian Sherr their highest honor: The Tree of Life Award. The Tree of Life Award, a humanitarian award given in recognition of outstanding community involvement and dedication to the cause of American-Israeli friendship, will be presented at a special Tree of Life Dinner and Ceremony on Thursday, May 11th, at the Westin Hotel, Cypress Creek. JNF’s Tree of Life Award recognizes members of the community who show outstanding dedication to community service, community involvement, and devotion to peace and the security of human life. Proceeds from the Tree of Life Award Dinner will benefit JNF's ongoing efforts and dedication to assist Israel.

“We are proud to honor Brian Sherr for his extraordinary philanthropic work,” said Elliott Borkson, president of JNF’s Broward Board of Directors. “In addition to coming together for this exceptional honor, we hope that our Tree of Life Award dinner, featuring special guest speaker Yossi Olmert, will help us to raise much needed funds that will help in our ongoing efforts on Israel’s behalf.”

In addition to being an attorney, Sherr is the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors for First Southern Bank, the largest and oldest independent bank headquartered in Boca Raton. The $425 million dollar community-based Commercial Bank focuses on advisory relationships that provide the full spectrum of personal and business banking services for successful entrepreneurs, professionals, and small- to middle-market companies. The fast-growing bank operates a total of six branches – three in Broward County and three in Palm Beach County.

Sherr has been with Greenberg Traurig since 1991. Since 1995 he has been the Co-Managing Shareholder of the Fort Lauderdale office, which has 218 employees, including 52 attorneys.

Sherr began his legal career in 1970, working for Florida Rural Legal Services, where he represented migrant workers in the farms west of Boca and Delray. He represented them for more than 3 years, including handling litigation in Federal Court.

He is a Board of Governors member of the Museum of Art, Ft. Lauderdale; Aish Hatorah Jerusalem Advisory Board; Board of Directors, Daniel D. Cantor Senior Center; Past President, the Jewish Federation of Greater Fort Lauderdale; and Past President, Jewish Family Service, Broward County.

He is a former member of the Board of Directors, Florida Atlantic University Foundation and a former member of the Board of Directors, Broward Center for the Performing Arts Foundation.

In addition, he was a 2002 honoree of the American Friends of Ariel, an award that means a great deal to Brian because of family ties to Ariel. Recently, Brian Sherr and Richard Finkelstein, Co-Chair of the Tree of Life Award Dinner, visited Israel to check on the progress of Ariel's newest developments. They toured the route of the security fence being built around Ariel and checked on the construction of the city’s sports and recreation complex. Donations are still being accepted to complete this vital 6-million-dollar project in Ariel.

Past Tree of Life recipients in Broward County include Honorable Bob Butterworth, Daniel D. Cantor, James R. Cassady, Steven M. Cohen, Fred Lippman and Harold Wishna.

The Tree of Life Award Dinner is expected to draw more than 400 supporters, members, guests and friends of JNF in South Florida. Cocktails are from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm followed by dinner and remarks by Olmert, whose topic will be the current political climate in Israel.

Sponsorships and advertisements in the dinner journal are still available. If you would like to purchase a sponsorship or ticket to attend the dinner, contact Debbie Regent at JNF at 561-447-9733 or via email at dregent@jnf.org.

The Westin Hotel, Cypress Creek is located on the north side of Cypress Creek Road east of I-95 at 400 Corporate Drive in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
