Greenberg Traurig Announces New Of Counsel Michael Starler to Join Highly Regarded Los Angeles Tax Group

LOS ANGELES, CA-- March 30, 2006 -- Greenberg Traurig has announced Michael H. Starler as the newest member of its Los Angeles tax group, where he will serve as of counsel.

Specializing in sophisticated estate planning, business tax matters, and trusts and estates, Starler previously practiced in Brentwood, California, for more than 20 years, representing high net worth individuals and closely held businesses. He also has represented clients in matters of business law, corporate law, partnership and limited liability law, real estate, entertainment law and intellectual property.

“Greenberg Traurig’s Los Angeles tax group is well known for its handling of sophisticated tax and estate matters, relying on the expertise and leadership of attorneys like Carol Perrin and Norman Lane,” said Tom Loo, co-managing shareholder of the Los Angeles office at Greenberg Traurig. “Now with the addition of Michael, a 30-year tax veteran, our clients will gain tremendous value from his expertise in dealing with complex tax matters and his practical approach to structuring integrated estate plans.”

Starler provides counsel on family limited partnerships, family limited liability companies and business succession planning as well as individual, corporate and partnership tax. Other areas of expertise include tax controversy matters, complex business transactional law including taxable and non-taxable mergers and acquisitions, private charitable foundations, executive deferred compensation, and premarital and postnuptial agreements.

“Greenberg Traurig is an ideal environment for my clients, who now can benefit from its broad scope of legal services and the added support of a comprehensive tax group,” said Starler. “The firm’s outstanding reputation, combined with the knowledge and skills of its tax team, will benefit our clients worldwide when seeking guidance for tax and estate matters.”

Starler first was introduced to Greenberg Traurig in the late 1970s, when he served as co-counsel with the Miami office of Greenberg Traurig, representing a major title insurance company in a dispute relating to a condominium development in the Florida Keys. Regarding that experience, Starler said, “I was extremely impressed with the caliber of the lawyers at GT with whom I had the pleasure of working, as well as the firm culture, which seemed much different from that of other large law firms I had encountered. When I decided to look for a firm environment within which to conduct my practice, the Los Angeles office of GT was my first choice.”

Starler earned his LLM in taxation from the University of San Diego School of Law and his law degree from Southwestern University, where he was a member of Law Review. He holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration from California State University at Northridge. He is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the State Bar of California. Starler and his wife Suzan, a chiropractor, reside in Malibu.
