More ICE Arrests: This Time 109 in Las Vegas

ICE is busy busy busy. In its ongoing effort to clear the U.S. of persons who are not in the U.S. legally, ICE arrested 109 immigration violators between August 23 and August 29, 2006. The operation is part of a focused ICE enforcement initiative known as "Operation Return to Sender." At least 35 of these individuals were actually removed from the U.S.

The particular individuals were specifically targeted, as they have criminal records, final orders of deportation, and/or other immigration violations. Continued efforts to remove immigration violators are all part of increased enforcement by ICE, aimed both at employers bad faith actors, who hire unauthorized workers as well as at the individuals who are not maintaining lawful status in the U.S. ICE plans to expand the number of operations by the end of the year and is already gearing up with increased worksite enforcement teams.
