Government Agency Update

INS Releases Immigration Figures for FY 1999 and 2000

The Immigration & Naturalization Service released figures regarding immigration to the United States for fiscal years 1999 and 2000. In comparing the two reports, it is clear that there was a dramatic increase in the number of lawful permanent resident applications approved by the INS in fiscal year 2000. The INS attributes this increase to improvements in processing applications. Both reports confirm that most individuals immigrate to the United States to join U.S. citizen and permanent resident family members.
