Update on Web-based Appointment System in Chennai, India

The new Web-based appointment system for nonimmigrant visa applicants was introduces on February 12, 2002 in Chennai, India. Qualified individuals can schedule appointments for nonimmigrant visa interviews at www.ttsvisas.com. There is no additional fee for using this service.

For individuals who are not eligible to use the “Drop-Box” or “Business Express” programs, advance appointments will become mandatory starting on March 4, 2002. Applicants may apply through the "drop box" if they meet the following criteria:

  • The applicant has traveled to North America, Western Europe, Australia or Japan within the past two years.
  • The applicant is over 60 years of age.
  • The applicant is applying for an "H" or "L" visa, only.

The new system is in use at the American Embassy in New Delhi and at the American Consulate in Mumbai. Ambassador Blackwill hopes that this new system will help reduce long visa lines.
