U.S. Consulate in Karachi Suspends Operation

The U.S. consulate in Karachi, Pakistan has suspended all operations due to security threats. Consulate staff was sent home Monday morning, August 5, 2002 and told to wait for further instructions. It is unclear when the consulate will resume normal or even limited operations. Individuals who were planning to go to the U.S. Consulate in Karachi for visa applications or other matters are advised to contact the consulate to determine when they will reopen or make alternate arrangements.
