INS District Offices to Cease Issuing Same Day EAD and Advance Parole Documents

The INS District Offices have received instructions that they are no longer authorized to issue EAD and Advance Parole documents on a same day policy when the file has a temporary A number. INS wants to ensure that benefits are granted to only those who are eligible. Prior to issuing an immigration benefit the immigration officer must review the entire file, run the name of the individual through the CIS (Central Index System) and have an FBI security check completed. Any negative items must be resolved and reviewed by a supervisor before a benefit may be granted to the individual. This new processing procedure will likely cause delays in issuing of EAD and Advance Parole documents depending on the processes in place at the local district offices. Individuals should plan ahead when applying for EAD and Advance Parole documents at a District Office.
