INS Guidance on H-1B Nurses

The INS has recently released guidance to the field on H-1B visas for registered nurses (RN). The memorandum to the field advises that certain RN occupations may qualify for H-1B status. The memo specifically lists advanced practice positions which should be accepted by the INS for H-1Bs. Further the memo recognizes that nursing specialties, (including critical care and peri-operative nurses) require a higher degree of knowledge and skill than a typical RN or staff nurse position. While RN's are generally not considered for H-1B positions this eases the standards for those coming in to perform specialized RN occupations.
