Temporary Closure of the U.S. Consulate Nuevo Laredo

On January 29, 2003, the Department of State announced the temporary closure of the U.S. Consulate in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. The closure follows allegations that some individuals received visas illegally from this consulate. The statement indicated that the consulate would reopen within a few days to provide emergency citizen services. However, depending on the length and outcome of the investigation currently in progress, even if the consulate reopens, visa operations will remain suspended until the Department is completely satisfied that all visas are being issued in full accordance of the law.

Individuals who planned to process their visa applications at this consulate will need to make arrangements to apply at other consulates. We recommend that you contact your immigration counsel for additional information. GT will continue to provide updates as they become available.
