State Department Warns of Possible Closings of Facilities
The U.S. Department of State issued a worldwide caution at the onset
of U.S. military action in Iraq on March 19, 2003. In addition to warning
U.S. citizens of the increased risk of attacks, the Department of State
warned against attacks against U.S. interests and facilities. In particular,
the Department of State stated that U.S. Consulates and Embassies may close
or suspend public services, such as visa interviews and issuances, for short
periods of time due to security concerns. As such, individuals who are planning
on applying for their U.S. visas as at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate should
be aware that services may be disrupted. Individuals are urged to check
with the local U.S. Embassy or Consulate to determine if they are open and
offering public services before traveling to the Embassy or Consulate.
This information will be updated as GT becomes aware of specific closings
or suspension of services at U.S. Embassies and Consulates abroad.
