USCIS Adds Required Vaccinations for Applicants to Adjust Status to become Legal Permanent Residents

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services has revised its list of vaccines required for applicants seeking to adjust their status to become legal permanent residents, based on guidance from the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). All applicants for Adjustment of Status must undergo a medical examination by a certified civil surgeon to ensure that they are admissible on medical grounds.

CDC added the following age-appropriate vaccinations to the list of required vaccinations for adjustment applicants’ medical exams:

  • Rotavirus
  • Hepatitis A
  • Meningococcal
  • Human Papillomavirus
  • Zoster

For medical examinations completed on or after August 1, 2008, applicants must use the June 5, 2008 version of form I-693 Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Records which includes the new vaccination requirements. More information regarding the vaccination requirements can be found at www.uscis.gov.
