U.S. Department of Homeland Security Releases Information on
Stimulus Act Funding
On March 3, 2009, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
issued a press release regarding the funding that it will receive from
the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. According to the press
release, $3.5 billion will go to the DHS and the General Services
Administration (GSA) in support of DHS programs.
Some of the DHS-projects that will receive stimulus funding include:
- $650 million to begin construction on consolidated DHS
Headquarters
- $720 million to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for
renovation and construction of land port entries
- $100 million to the CBP for Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII)
technology
- $100 million to the CBP for border technology on the
Southwestern U.S. border
- $1 billion to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)
for explosives detection systems and checkpoint screening equipment
The DHS has also created a website that will enable the public to
monitor and track the use of the stimulus funds received by the DHS at
www.dhs.gov/recovery.
