Economic Crisis Forces Delay Comprehensive Immigration Reform

While campaigning, President Barack Obama was outspoken about his support of comprehensive immigration reform. Vice President Joe Biden, while at an informal regional summit in San Jose, Costa Rica, reiterated the current administration’s belief that the immigration issues in America “can only solved in the context of an overall immigration reform.” However, Vice President Biden made it clear that Immigration Reformers must remain patient because immediate reform is unlikely given the current economic crisis. The Vice President explained, “it’s difficult to tell a constituency while unemployment is rising, they're losing their jobs and their homes, that what we should do is in fact legalize (illegal immigrants) and stop all deportation.” For the time being comprehensive immigration reform is understandably taking a back seat the economic crisis, but we can rest assured knowing that the issue remains on the Whitehouse’s “to-do” list.
