New Form I-9 Requirements Effective Today - April 3, 2009

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued a reminder that the revised Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification (Rev. 02/02/09), goes into effect today for all U.S. employers.  USCIS delayed the effective date of the Interim Final Rule for 60 days, until April 3, 2009, in order to provide the opportunity for further review of the rule.  After additional review the rule was released without substantive change from the February 2009 version.  The new Form I-9 specifies that expired documents are no longer acceptable forms of identification or employment authorization.
