14 Killed and Many More Taken Hostage at an Immigration Services Center

According to Binghamton, New York Officials, “a gunman barricaded the rear door of the American Civic Association with his car before entering through the front door and firing his weapon.” The American Civic Association is an organization dedicated to  helping immigrants and refugees with counseling, resettlement, citizenship, family reunification and translators.  Early reports show as many as 14 people were killed, including the gunman, with approximately another 41 taken hostage.  According to hospital spokeswoman Christina Boyd,  “five people with gunshot wounds were being treated at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.” The reports further indicate that the shooter was a young male carrying both a pistol and high powered rifle.  Currently, no motive for the attack is apparent.  CBS News correspondent Bob Orr reported that the shooter is apparently dead and officials tell CBS News the situation appears to be winding down.
