USCIS Teleconference on Proposed Change to I-130 Filing Procedures

On November 9, 2010, USCIS hosted a teleconference to discuss proposed changes to the filing procedures for Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative, when being filed by petitioners residing overseas.    USCIS is examining the cost-effectiveness of continuing to have USCIS and Department of State resources overseas accept and adjudicate petitions for petitioners residing overseas versus having these petitions accepted and adjudicated by USCIS domestically. USCIS and Stakeholders discussed the impact such a change in filing procedures would have on processing times, responding to time-sensitive USCIS correspondence, emergency/humanitarian processing procedures, customer service, acceptable forms of payment, and fraud detection.  A detailed Executive Summary of the USCIS Teleconference on Overseas Filing of Form I-130 was released on December 6, 2010.
