ICE Releases Fact Sheet for International Students Applying for a Driver's License or State Identification Card

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has released a Fact Sheet as part of its Student and Exchange Visitor Program http://www.ice.gov/doclib/sevis/pdf/dmv_factsheet.pdf for use by Designated School Officials (DSOs) and Responsible Officers (ROs) in order to enable them to assist international students in F, J, and M visa status. Highlights include important notes on the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) database and SAVE Program. Also included are reminders for the student to present consistent and accurate biographic and status information as well as identified waiting periods needed when applying at the DMV due to SEVIS updates, travel or change of visa status (including newly approved H-1B workers). Contact Information is also provided for the DSO/RO to assist students who may encounter issues including contact email information and links to state-specific DMV websites.
