USCIS Extends TPS for Salvadorans

On January 10, 2012, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that it has extended the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for eligible Salvadorans for eighteen additional months beginning March 10, 2012 through September 9, 2013.

Salvadoran nationals who currently hold TPS must re-register during the 60-day re-registration period that runs from January 9, 2012 through March 12, 2012. The TPS extension also allows re-registrants to apply for a new Employment Authorization Document (EAD) which will be valid until September 9, 2013. Because not all applicants will receive their new EADs until after their current EADs expire, DHS is automatically extending the current TPS El Salvador EAD bearing a March 9, 2012 expiration date for an additional six months (or through September 9, 2012).

If you have questions about re-registration or about the automatic EAD extension, please contact your GT attorney.
