e-Passport Testing Completed in Anticipation of October 26th
Deadline
As reported in January, the Department
of Homeland Security (DHS) started testing e-Passport technology.
e-Passports, which contain contactless chips with biographic and
biometric information and readers that are capable of reading e-Passports,
was tested from January 15, 2006 through April 15, 2006. The DHS
has reported considerable progress in this testing, which is in
anticipation of the upcoming October 26, 2006 deadline which requires
all Visa Waiver Travelers to have an e-Passport to travel to the
United States.
Greenberg Traurig will provide updates on any future implementation
of similar programs as they become available.
